Lockdown: What it has taught me - Sophie Lyburn
Lifestyle Ambassador, Sophie Lyburn on the personal impact of Lockdown.
So I am generally a very optimistic person and try my best to embrace change, even though I completely fear it.
Most changes are optional, we plan a different route in life; move house, city, change jobs, partners, book events, challenges and we anticipate the upcoming changes, there's a plan in place. Covid-19 didn't give us that time.
When lockdown was enforced and I was no longer able to run my business from a gym and uncertain if I would receive any government help there were a few things that went through my mind, I'll exclude the ones with profanities: "Change or die". "It is your reaction to adversity, not adversity itself that will determine your life story".
So I changed, and I've learnt a lot about myself. 9 weeks of living alone and I have managed to push myself out of my comfort zone in order to financially survive. I set up a successful online business supporting clients from all over the world. I set myself challenges, 6 half marathons in 6 days - for the hell of it. I have developed my baking skills (who hasn't!) and I will tell anyone that will listen that 10k steps a day should always be a non-negotiable! It doesn't matter if you have 5 minutes or 5 hours you can still make a healthy meal and you don't need much (if any) equipment to stay fit. The benefits of a regular sleeping pattern and daily schedule cannot be underestimated and no FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) or social pressure has been unexpectedly blissful. That said, I cannot wait to be let loose in a beer garden with friends.
Lockdown has shown me that I am independent, resilient and completely content with just the basics in life.
Maybe we are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for.
